


Rockingham County was established in 1778 from Augusta County, and is named for the Marquis of Rockingham, a British statesman. Rockingham County covers an area over 850 square miles, and has a population of approximately 68,000 people.
The City of Harrisonburg, named for Thomas Harrison, was established in 1779 and is the county seat for Rockingham County. Harrisonburg has a population of approximately 40,500 people.
